Abstract

Using the findings of a research in two small agricultural cities in Mexico, this paper shows that, althougth this type of localities are substantially different from industrial cities, they should not be considered as remains of older ways of life or modes of production. Being seats for economic intermediaries and for the agencies of regional political control, small agricultural cities are subject to constant transformation, due to the adaptation of their inhabitants to the changes in national politics and in the requirements of national an international economies.
