Abstract

Any strategy oriented towards reducing the migration of Mexican workers to the United States by modifying living conditions in the "migration sending regions" must first identify and acknowledge these zones.

In a preliminary survey in the state of Zacatecas, we identified those municipalities which contribute most to the migration of Mexican workers to the United States; later, we corroborated our findings in situ and drew up an approximation of the geographic and economic characteristics of those municipalities, which make up a "migration sending zones or regions" in the state. This information was documented in a report entitled "Zacatecas: Labor migration sending areas. A Preliminary Approximation", which we recently presented to the Commission for the Study of International Migration and Cooperative Economic Development. This article is a synthesis of this report.
