Cohesión social y satisfacción con la colonia: estudio en comunidades urbanas de ingreso medio-bajo

Resumen

En este artículo se analiza la relación entre la cohesión social y la satisfacción con la colonia, un indicador del bienestar de los residentes. Usando datos de una encuesta aplicada a habitantes de dos colonias en Monterrey, Nuevo León, calculamos un índice de cohesión social considerando una serie de atributos del medio ambiente social (confianza vecinal, participación vecinal, comportamiento participativo e identidad vecinal) para relacionarlo con el grado de satisfacción con su colonia. Estimamos diferentes especificaciones por probit y probit ordenado. Encontramos evidencia de que la cohesión social tiene una relación positiva y estadísticamente significativa con el grado de satisfacción con la colonia. Este resultado contribuye no sólo a la literatura relacionada, sino a validar los programas sociales y la política pública cuyo objetivo es aumentar el bienestar de los ciudadanos a través de acciones encaminadas a mejorar la cohesión social.
