Focus and Scope

Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos is an open access scientific journal, specialized in the analysis, research and reflection on demographic, urban and environmental dynamics in Latin America and the world, with a particular focus on Mexico. Its perspective is inscribed in the field of social sciences, favoring an interdisciplinary approach.

The journal is aimed at a specialized audience and all manuscripts submitted are subject to a double-blind peer review process, ensuring rigor and academic quality in its publications.

Since its creation in 1986, Estudios Demográficos y Urbanos has established itself as a reference in its field, offering a space for academic discussion through the following sections:

The journal is published in Spanish and English. Its publication is continuous and is disseminated in open access electronic format, in PDF, HTML, audio, Kindle and Epub formats, guaranteeing a wide availability of its contents.

Since its foundation, the journal has been directed by renowned specialists: Martha Schteingart (1986-1990), Crescencio Ruiz (1990-1991), Beatriz Figueroa (1991-1999), José Luis Lezama (1999-2001), Clara Salazar (2001-2003 and 2021-July 2024), Manuel Ángel Castillo (2004-2021) and Jéssica Nájera (August-December 2024). Since January 2025, Víctor M. García Guerrero is the Editor-in-Chief.

The journal’s predecessor is Demografía y Economía (1967-1984). Its historical collection also includes the entire collection of this predecessor publication.
