Resumen

El artículo explora el trasplante de ideas urbanísticas de la Ciudad de Nueva York a la Ciudad de México, siguiendo la metodología de la historia urbana y la geografía crítica. El fenómeno del trasplante se interpreta como un proceso complejo que incluye, predominante pero no exclusivamente, la falta de reflexividad con la que se implantan en un contexto local ideas provenientes de otras latitudes. Se parte de un hecho conocido (la influencia de la ciudad de Nueva York a nivel mundial) para examinar las diversas formas en que esa influencia se hace sentir en una ciudad determinada, en este caso la capital mexicana. Se concluye que es preciso incorporar estos temas a la agenda de investigación urbana con el fin de mejorar nuestro conocimiento sobre los orígenes de las ideas y las instituciones que rigen los procesos urbanos en contextos periféricos.
