Abstract

The research is based on a study carried out between 1989 and 1991 in the three rural communities in the state of Morelos that included a socio-demographic survey and interviews. The methodological goal of the authors is to view nuptiality from a demographic and from a anthropological standpoints. In doing this authors also sought to take into account the limitations of each disciplines and take advantage of the fact that they complement each other. The qualitative surveys included in the demographic study are more than illustrations of the quantitative results, as they are meant to improve the understanding of problems and the methodology used, on the basis of the testimonies given by people interviewed. Using this strategy, the authors seek to pinpoint the elements that accaunt for changes that have taken place in nuptuality, as well as to identify the impact of these changes on descendance.
